A method built on more than technique

I'm not just a local violin teacher. I've taught internationally in Vienna and Shanghai, studied at master conservatories, and bring world-class methodology to Toronto.

My approach: I don't teach repetition. I teach understanding. When students understand why technique matters — how to produce good sound, how music works, how to solve musical problems — they build genuine confidence. They know they're truly capable.

This foundation is why my students excel in competitions, professional performances, and advanced music programs.

  • Understanding-based methodology — not shortcuts or quick fixes
  • International study opportunities: Vienna master classes, Rome at Santa Cecilia Conservatory
  • Professional performance experience — solos with Great Lakes Philharmonic
  • A high-standard youth orchestra: Nova Youth Chamber Orchestra
  • Partnership with parents toward one shared goal: unlocking your child's potential
"I don't just teach violin technique. I help unlock the hidden creative potential within each student and build the confidence they need to become true musicians. I'm not trying to make my students into professional musicians. I teach them discipline, goal-setting, creative problem-solving, and a psychological approach to each student. These skills apply to any life situation. By achieving goals, they learn that anything is possible."

Organized by level, not by age

Every child progresses differently, and that's exactly how I teach. Lessons aren't grouped by age — they're built entirely around where your child actually is as a player, so they're always challenged just enough: never bored, never overwhelmed.

Beginner

No Prior Experience

Foundation in understanding. Students learn proper technique, music theory, and how to think like musicians. By month 3, playing with genuine comprehension, not just mimicry.

Intermediate

1–3 Years Experience

Technical development plus artistic expression. Students prepare for ensemble work, potentially orchestra auditions, and build the confidence to perform publicly.

Advanced

3+ Years Experience

Master-level training. Preparation for professional opportunities, university auditions, and performance with professional orchestras. International study trips available.

International experiences & professional performances

My students don't just practice at home. They access opportunities most young musicians never get.

01

International Study Trips

Vienna: master classes with professional instructors. Rome: study at Santa Cecilia Conservatory, one of the world's leading music institutions. Immersive learning, direct access to world-class pedagogy.

02

Professional Performance

Solos with Great Lakes Philharmonic, a professional orchestra. Membership in Nova Youth Chamber Orchestra, a high-standard ensemble. Real stage experience, real audience, real growth.

03

Exam & Competition Ready

Preparation for Royal Conservatory exams, school and university auditions, and competitions — students succeed because they understand what they're playing, not just perform it.

A youth ensemble built around solo opportunity

This season, Nova performs Vivaldi's The Four Seasons, a Christmas Concert alongside the professional Great Lakes Philharmonic, and a season-closing performance — with every member getting the chance to step forward as a soloist. Auditions are open to violin, viola, cello, and bass students ages 8–18 with at least one year of experience.

Everything you need to know

Straight answers to the questions parents ask most.

What age should my child start learning violin?

I work with children starting from age 4-5. Interest and readiness matter more than age. I evaluate each student individually.

Do we need to own a violin to start?

Not immediately. Quality rentals are available in the GTA. I guide families on what to look for.

How long until we see results?

Progress is visible from the first lessons. I teach understanding, not repetition. Students learn why each technique matters, how to produce good sound, how music works. This builds genuine confidence — they know they're truly capable.

Quick results without proper foundation? That's not what I do. I build musicians. By month 3, students are playing with genuine understanding of what they're doing.

Can lessons be rescheduled if we miss?

Consistency is essential for progress. I maintain a structured schedule. Occasional rescheduling can be discussed, but I expect families to commit to regular lessons.

How often should my child practice at home?

I recommend:

  • Beginners: 15–20 minutes, 2–4 times daily
  • Intermediate: 30–45 minutes daily
  • Advanced: 60+ minutes daily

Focused, intentional practice beats mindless repetition.

What makes the Yertesky Method different?

I don't just teach technique. I create transformative experiences and unlock creative potential. My students don't just take lessons in a studio. They:

  • Learn understanding-based methodology that builds genuine confidence
  • Study with master teachers during international trips: Vienna (with professional instructors) and Rome (at Santa Cecilia Music Conservatory, one of the world's leading music institutions)
  • Perform solos with Great Lakes Philharmonic, a professional orchestra
  • Participate in Nova Youth Chamber Orchestra — a high-standard ensemble I direct with professional-level rigor
  • Train under a pedagogue with 20+ years of experience and international teaching credentials (Vienna, Shanghai)
  • Build discipline, goal-setting, and artistic mastery that apply to every area of life
What's the parent's role?

We're a team. You handle your child's overall upbringing and education; I handle their musical development. But we work together toward one goal: unlocking your child's potential. This means:

  • You ensure consistent practice and attendance
  • I provide expert guidance and international-level instruction
  • We communicate regularly about progress
  • We're aligned on what we're building

Parents who are passive — who drop their child off and expect me to "fix" them — don't work with me. I need partners, not just clients. If you're serious about your child's development, we'll do great work together.

Can lessons be done online?

For advanced students, yes. For beginners and intermediate students, I teach in-person in the GTA. Technique assessment requires direct personal guidance.

Is the assessment really free?

Yes. During our first session, I assess your child's readiness and we discuss the approach.

I'm selective about who I work with. I have limited teaching time and I'm committed to giving each student — and each family — full attention. This is an opportunity to see if we're a good fit.
What if my child wants to join the orchestra?

After 1+ year with me, some students audition for Nova Youth Chamber Orchestra. This is not a casual ensemble — I maintain professional-level standards. Members benefit from:

  • High-caliber ensemble training
  • International performance opportunities
  • Professional collaboration
  • Accelerated artistic development
Can my student perform with a professional orchestra?

Yes. My advanced students perform solos with Great Lakes Philharmonic, a professional orchestra. This is a significant achievement and opportunity.

Do you prepare for exams (ABRSM, RCM)?

Yes. I prepare for Royal Conservatory exams, music school entrance auditions, and university auditions. My students excel because they understand what they're playing.

We're a team

Quality musical education requires alignment between teacher and parents. We work together toward one goal: unlocking your child's potential.

This is not transactional. If you're looking for a teacher to "fix" your child through passive attendance, this isn't the right fit. If you're committed to being a true partner in their development, we'll do exceptional work together.

You Provide

  • Consistent practice and attendance
  • A home environment that supports learning
